Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq stated that the government is prepared to offer necessary relief concerning electricity and wheat flour prices following violent protests in Mirpur, resulting in the death of one police officer and the injury of over 70 others.
“We have engaged in discussions with the Awami Action Committee (AAC) and have come to an agreement that we are committed to implementing,” PM Haq assured.
This development follows demonstrations against high electricity bills and taxes entering their second day in Mirpur on Saturday, leading to clashes between the police and the ACC.
Addressing the incident, PM Haq acknowledged the sacrifice of a police officer during the protests, emphasizing the AJK police’s patience amidst the turmoil.
“We are open to dialogue with ACC at any level, and issues related to the Government of Pakistan will be brought to the attention of the federation,” the prime minister declared.
PM Haq noted that while the ACC announced a long march for their demands, there were some troublemakers among the protesters. “The government ensured a non-violent response during the protests,” he affirmed.
The premier underscored public security as their foremost concern, highlighting the AJK administration’s restraint, and noting the dissemination of propaganda on social media.
PM Haq guaranteed that, if necessary, the government is prepared to reduce the development budget in order to alleviate wheat flour and electricity prices.
