PESHAWAR: Aimal Wali Khan, the president of the Awami National Party (ANP) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was unanimously elected as the party’s central president during a general council meeting at ANP’s Bacha Khan Centre in Peshawar, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Iftikhar Hussain.
No other candidates applied for the president’s position, with Aimal’s nomination put forward by ANP leader Haider Khan Hoti.
Aimal’s father, Asfandyar Wali Khan, previously held the position but has been inactive in politics and didn’t participate in the February 8 general elections.
Meanwhile, ANP central spokesperson Zahid Khan announced his resignation on Saturday, stating his decision not to participate in the party’s intra-party elections.
It’s been suggested that neither Hoti nor Zahid are involved in the intra-party elections due to purported political differences with the ANP leadership. Reports indicate that despite Aimal’s efforts to persuade him, Zahid remained unswayed, maintaining his distance from party affairs.
