RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism saw security forces eliminating eight terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, announced the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday.
According to the military’s media wing, the operation targeted reported terrorist presence, resulting in the elimination of the militants following a fierce exchange of fire.
“The deceased terrorists were actively engaged in various terrorist activities against security forces and were involved in targeting innocent civilians,” stated the ISPR, noting the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the militants.
Affirming the security forces’ determination to eradicate terrorism, the statement also mentioned ongoing efforts to sanitize the area and root out any remaining terrorists.
Earlier in the week, Private Media reported that the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) had apprehended 22 suspected terrorists associated with different banned outfits in various areas of Punjab.
Prior to that, the department had detained over 10 terrorists and facilitators linked to the suicide attack on Chinese engineers in Shangla’s Bisham city, resulting in the deaths of five Chinese citizens and a Pakistani driver, as reported by Private Media citing sources.
The incident spurred a strong reaction from the military, vowing to hold accountable all those involved in aiding terrorism, directly or indirectly.
Amid a significant uptick in terrorist attacks in recent months, security forces have been conducting regular anti-terror operations across the country.
