LAHORE: Due to a severe shortage of teachers in Punjab’s government medical colleges, the provincial government has decided to hire retired professors for various departments.
According to the details, the Punjab government has approved the recruitment of retired professors in crisis-hit departments of government medical colleges. Positions will be filled in Biochemistry, Pharmacology, and Anesthesia.
The Punjab Health Department has issued directives to all government medical colleges to complete these hirings by June 30. The contract age limit for these hires has been set at 65 years. According to reports, recruitment will take place in 12 different departments across 36 medical colleges and hospitals. Contracts for retired professors will end upon hiring permanent faculty.
In other news, Provincial Minister for Housing, Urban Development, and Public Health Engineering, Bilal Yasin, announced a major initiative by the Punjab Safe Drinking Water Authority. Water filtration plants will be installed in 3,000 schools and colleges across the province. The pilot project will start at three schools and three colleges.

Details shared during a meeting revealed that the Punjab government has made a significant decision to ensure clean drinking water for students. Minister Bilal Yasin emphasized that the Punjab Safe Drinking Water Authority will lead this initiative, with funds allocated through councils to install filtration plants in schools and colleges.
Education Minister Rana Mashood highlighted the importance of clean water in educational institutions, noting its critical role in preventing waterborne diseases. Schools and colleges will oversee the installation and maintenance of these filtration plants.
Secretary Housing Noreen Ameen Mangal mentioned in the meeting that community schools will install plants with a reduced budget. The technical assistance and monitoring of these projects will be handled by the Punjab Safe Drinking Water Authority.
Present at the meeting were Chairman Chaudhry Zahid Akram, CEO Syed Zahid Aziz, and DG Operations Muhammad Zahi Bat of the Punjab Safe Drinking Water Authority.
