LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member Sardar Latif Khosa expressed his decision to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday, stating that it was in accordance with the wishes of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan.
In a statement, Khosa emphasized that his decision was made in the best interest of the country and democracy. He pledged to advocate vigorously for the truth and announced this move at a press conference in Lahore, expressing hope that it would contribute to ending the politics of hatred.
Khosa underscored the significance of adhering to the country’s Constitution, describing it as a civil agreement with the characteristics of welfare states. He asserted that whenever the Constitution deviates, both the state and the country suffer, emphasizing the potential prosperity if the Constitution is followed in its true spirit.
Attributing the idea of Pakistan to Barrister Muhammed Iqbal and its completion to Barrister Muhammed Ali Jinnah, Khosa highlighted the role of the armed forces not only in protecting borders but also in assisting the state during emergencies, such as floods, and providing security for elections.
Stating his dedication to PTI, Khosa refrained from discussing his gains or losses in PPP. He also called for an end to the alleged oppression faced by PTI founder Imran Khan, who has been in custody since August on various charges.
Khosa urged the judiciary to ensure a level playing field for all political parties leading up to the general elections scheduled for February 8 next year, emphasizing the expectations of the country’s 250 million people.
This development occurs amid a series of defections from PTI, with leaders like Pervez Khattak, Asad Umar, Shireen Mazari, and others parting ways with the party following incidents on May 9 triggered by Imran Khan’s arrest on corruption charges.
On December 4, Khosa, a member of Imran Khan’s legal team, revealed that he had been invited by the PTI founder to join the party.
Earlier on September 22, PPP had suspended Khosa’s party membership over his failure to respond to a show-cause notice for violating party policy by defending the head of another political party (PTI) without approval. A notice had been issued to him on September 14 for the same reason.
