Sindh govt cracks down on unfit vehicles, mandates inspection for heavy vehicles

KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to crack down on physically unfit vehicles across the province.

An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon on the effective implementation of Motor Vehicle Inspection. In the meeting, Sharjeel Memon gave instructions to expedite the establishment of MVI centers across Sindh.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, MD Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kamal Dayo, Secretary PTA Okash Memon, and other officials.

Sharjeel Memon said that the Sindh Chief Minister has issued instructions regarding the implementation of the MVI system and vehicle registration.

He mentioned that the MVI system should be fully functional within a month, and motor vehicle inspection has been made mandatory for dumpers, trucks, buses, and trailers.

The provincial minister added that MVI centers will be established at 4 locations in Karachi, and MVI sites will also be set up in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpur Khas, and Shaheed Benazirabad divisions.

Sharjeel Memon directed the authorities to ensure the safety standards of vehicles before they are put on the road. Effective action will be taken against vehicles without fitness certificates, and cases will be registered against those with fake fitness certificates and sent to jail.

On the other hand, the Sindh Cabinet approved the Universities and Boards Amendment Bill 2025.

The Sindh Cabinet met under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. According to sources, the Cabinet has also approved a five-year age relaxation for government jobs.
