Islamabad: The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Management Committee, Najam Sethi, has dismissed rumours about Babar Azam being removed as the national side’s captain.
After the cricket board announced the squads for the upcoming home series against New Zealand, Sethi took to Twitter to confirm that Babar Azam had met him before the team announcement.
Sethi revealed that he had told Azam that he would lead the ODI and T20I national team against New Zealand.
Regular skipper Babar Azam returns to the captaincy role alongside senior cricketers Mohammad Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf. Shaheen Afridi is making a comeback to international cricket after missing five Tests and three ODIs against England and New Zealand post the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 due to knee rehabilitation.
The T20I squad includes young players Saim Ayub and Zaman Khan who retained their positions, while Ihsanullah has received a maiden ODI team call-up alongside his retention in the T20I squad.
