According to the staff, the verdict in the 190-million-pound scandal case will be announced on January 13. The NAB prosecutor and PTI lawyer have been informed.

The jail trial of the 190-million-pound reference against PTI founder and his wife, Bushra Bibi, was completed within a year.

Case Background

NAB had arrested the PTI founder in the 190-million-pound reference on November 13, 2023, and interrogated him in Adiala Jail for 17 days.

Later, on December 1, 2023, NAB filed this reference in the accountability court, after which further investigation took place.

The court had indicted the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi on February 27, 2024. More than 100 hearings were held in this reference, and NAB presented a list of 59 witnesses in the court. Of these, 35 witnesses’ statements were recorded, and defense lawyers completed their cross-examination.

What Is the 190-Million-Pound Scandal?

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) launched an investigation against the former prime minister, his wife, and others for allegedly acquiring hundreds of kanals of land in the name of the Al-Qadir University Trust. The process is claimed to have caused a loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer.

According to the allegations, the former prime minister and other accused allegedly adjusted Rs50 billion. This amount was transferred to the Government of Pakistan by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA).

The PTI chief registered the trust for the Al-Qadir University project on December 26, 2019.
