KARACHI: An elephant named Sonia, also known as ‘Sonu,’ died in Safari Park.
A private TV channel quoted its sources as saying that the Safari Park elephant, Sonia, was 22 to 23 years old. Sonia died suddenly during the night. When the staff arrived in the morning, they found the elephant dead.
According to the report, elephants Sonia and Queen were already in the Safari Park, while, a few days ago, another elephant, Madhubala, was shifted from the zoo to the Safari Park.

Sources in the Safari Park said that after Sonia’s death, only two elephants remain in the park.
Following Sonia’s death, the Safari Park staff summoned a team of doctors. After confirming her death, the staff sealed the elephant enclosure. According to Safari Park Director Amjad Zaidi, no one, including the media, is allowed near the site.
Amjad Zaidi stated that Sonia, a female elephant, was brought to Pakistan in 2009 from Tanzania, along with three other elephants. One of them, Noor Jahan, died in March 2023 due to illness.

The Director further mentioned that Sonia’s death occurred suddenly last night. Initially, it is suspected that she suffered a heart attack. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
A four-member team, including experts from the University of Lahore, will participate in the post-mortem. The exact cause of death will be known after the procedure.
