ISLAMABAD: The spillways of Rawal Dam were opened on Sunday morning after the water level rose close to the danger mark following recent heavy rains.
According to officials, the water in the dam had reached 1,748.40 feet, prompting a decision late Saturday night to open the spillways. Sirens were sounded repeatedly to alert nearby residents before the gates were opened.
The maximum limit for the dam is 1,752 feet, and the administration plans to bring the level down to around 1,746 feet. The spillways are expected to remain open for about five hours and will be closed once the desired level is achieved.
