Punjab govt to introduce 102 eco-friendly electric buses for Rawalpindi citizens

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has decided to operate 102 eco-friendly electric buses to further improve travel facilities for the citizens of Rawalpindi.

As per private tv channel report, this decision was taken in the 39th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party on October 25.

The provincial government has given administrative approval for the completion of the project for 2024–25, with the completion period set for November 2025. This project will cover an area of 84 kilometers and will include 10 routes.

The cost of the electric bus service project is more than 7 billion rupees, while the Punjab government has released 4.7 billion rupees.

Punjab Mass Transit Authority will be responsible for the implementation of the project. The bus project will prove beneficial in eliminating air pollution.

It should be remembered that earlier, the federal government launched a new electric bus service in Islamabad, and the Islamabad Feeder Bus Service is also about to be launched. Under this service, 160 modern electric buses will be operated to travel across the city.

According to the details, a meeting was held at the CDA headquarters on January 12 under the chairmanship of CDA Chairman Captain (Retd.) Anwarul Haq regarding the electric bus service, in which the head of the Asian Development Bank in Pakistan and other officials participated.
