IPP Rejects Reports of Seat Adjustment Deal with PML-N: Aleem Khan
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

ISLAMABAD: The President of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), Abdul Aleem Khan, has strongly denied reports suggesting a political alliance between his party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

He clarified that there was no seat adjustment deal between the two parties, countering earlier claims that PML-N had secured such an agreement with the Jahangir Tareen-led party for the upcoming February 8, 2024 polls.

Rumors about a potential seat adjustment deal surfaced following a meeting between PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and IPP patron-in-chief Tarin at Shehbaz’s residence in Lahore.

Aleem mentioned in a recent interview that Shehbaz had visited Tareen earlier to inquire about his health, followed by a meeting between the IPP leader and the PML-N president. However, he emphasized that the discussions did not involve any talks related to seat adjustments.

Describing these encounters as “goodwill meetings,” Aleem clarified that the formal discussions requiring approval from the party’s 30-member central executive committee were yet to take place.

With the approaching polls, PML-N is actively striving to secure a position in power. In recent times, the party successfully attracted more than 30 significant political figures from Balochistan to join its ranks. Additionally, it entered into an agreement with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan to jointly participate in the February 8 elections.

The series of alliances pursued by PML-N comes amidst allegations from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Peoples Party, who have expressed concerns about a perceived lack of a fair electoral playing field and equal opportunities for all political parties.
