ISLAMABAD: Imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan, instructed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to persist in negotiations for his province’s rights at the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and other federal platforms, alongside collaborating with security agencies on security-related issues.

A statement from the KP government spokesperson, Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, affirmed that CM Gandapur visited the party founder in Adiala Jail today to seek guidance on significant political matters.

The meeting delved into various subjects including the forthcoming SIFC gathering—a ‘hybrid’ civil-military assembly aimed at attracting investments from Gulf nations—Senate elections, the law and order scenario in the province, among others, the spokesperson added.

CM Gandapur also provided a detailed update to the party founder regarding his recent encounter with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif earlier in the week, which was perceived as a significant political development aimed at easing tensions in the country.

Post his meeting with PM Shehbaz on Wednesday, Gandapur described his initial interaction with the premier as “constructive and favorable”.

Addressing the media alongside Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and other PML-N leaders subsequent to the meeting with the premier, CM Gandapur emphasized the necessity of engaging in political discourse with the incarcerated PTI founder, who has been in custody since August last year on various charges, spanning from corruption to terrorism.

During the same media briefing, Gandapur disclosed that PM Shehbaz had also pledged to facilitate his meeting with the party founder in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail following enhanced security measures and restrictions imposed on ex-premier Imran due to security concerns.

In today’s statement, Barrister Saif mentioned that discussions also encompassed the law and order situation in the province, with Imran instructing CM Gandapur to “maintain cooperation with security agencies regarding security-related affairs”.

CM Gandapur also updated Khan on the reinstatement of the Sehat Card (health card) and Ramadan package in KP.

Furthermore, the PTI founder endorsed the party’s candidates for the forthcoming Senate elections from KP, the spokesperson confirmed.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is scheduled to conduct the Senate election next month to fill the 48 vacant seats following the expiration of the incumbent senators’ six-year terms last week.
