ISLAMABAD: The administration of the federal capital on Saturday denied the request from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for peaceful protests regarding alleged rigging in the general elections 2024.

Stating that Section 144 had already been imposed in Islamabad, the administration reiterated that no gatherings, protests, or rallies were permitted for any party.

The administration clarified that permission couldn’t be granted to any party within the high-security zone.

Furthermore, it cautioned citizens against participating in political gatherings, stating that the police would take stern action against those involved in protests.

“The enforcement of Section 144 has been communicated to all parties via public information platforms,” the administration stated.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had declared nationwide protests against alleged election rigging in the general elections slated for February 8.

PTI leaders, including Asad Qaisar, announced Imran Khan’s call for a protest campaign against electoral malpractices.

Sher Afzal Marwat, a PTI leader, also publicized the protest announcement. PTI demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.

PTI leaders formally requested permission from the Islamabad district administration for the protest scheduled for February 17, to be held in front of the National Press Club.
