QUETTA: Two separate explosions occurred in different districts of Balochistan, resulting in the deaths of at least 28 individuals and causing injuries to over 40 others just before the general elections.

In the initial event, outside an independent candidate’s office in Khanozai, situated in Balochistan’s Pishin district, a blast claimed the lives of at least 15 people.

Reportedly, the attack occurred on PP-47 in Pishin, injuring more than 30 individuals.

The injured have been transferred to Tehsil Hospital Khanozai, and the bodies have also been moved, as informed by Dr. Habib, the hospital’s MS, speaking to a private TV channel. Dr. Habib stated that many of the injured are in critical condition.

In response to the blast, an emergency has been declared in hospitals across Quetta, with additional staff being mobilized, according to the provincial health secretary in conversation with a private TV channel. He further mentioned that operation theaters with staff are prepared to treat the injured at Trauma Centre, Civil Hospital, BMC, Benazir, and Sheikh Zayed Hospital.

At the time of the explosion, workers and supporters of independent candidate Asfandyar Kakar were present at the office. Kakar, contesting elections from NA-265 constituency and Balochistan Assembly constituencies PB-47 and PB-48, was not present at his office during the blast.

In an interview with a private TV channel, Kakar stated that the blast occurred from a motorcycle outside his election office. He reported the loss of eight workers and over 18 injuries during the incident when finalizing the names of polling agents.

Kakar, who was in Barshore at the time of the explosion, is en route to Khanozai.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken notice of the blast and has requested a report from the Balochistan chief secretary and Inspector General of Police (IGP).

A spokesperson for the ECP announced that directives have been issued to take action against those responsible for such incidents.
