LAHORE: Inzamam-ul-Haq, the head selector of the national cricket team, has tendered his resignation.

According to insider reports, Inzamam-ul-Haq has formally submitted his resignation to Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of the PC Management Committee.

He has affirmed his resignation, declaring, “I bear no association with the players’ agent company. I am open to an inquiry by the Pakistan Cricket Board. People often speak without conducting thorough research; anyone leveling accusations against me should substantiate their claims with evidence. Given any questions about my role, I believed it was prudent to step down.”

He further expressed his disappointment at the allegations. Upon receiving a call notifying him about the formation of a 5-member committee, he informed the board of his decision to step aside while the committee conducts its investigation. He also indicated his readiness to engage with the PCB once the matter is resolved.

It is important to highlight a recent report in “Express” that disclosed Inzamam-ul-Haq’s ownership shares in a company along with players’ agent Talha Rahmani, a company that also includes Muhammad Rizwan as an owner.

Following this revelation, allegations of a conflict of interest were directed at Inzamam-ul-Haq in his capacity as the chief selector. Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, Zaka Ashraf, announced that clarification would be sought regarding the involvement of the PCB agent as a shareholder in the company.

The Pakistan team’s performance in the World Cup has been notably lackluster, with four consecutive losses, making it exceedingly improbable to advance to the semi-finals. In this backdrop, both the captain, Babar Azam, and the chief selector have been subjected to criticism by pundits and commentators.
