ISLAMABAD: The Chief Selector of the Pakistan cricket team, Inzamam-ul-Haq, is facing scrutiny after it came to light that he holds shares in “Yazo International Limited,” a company owned by the players’ agent Talha Rehmani.

This revelation has sparked concerns about potential conflicts of interest, given that Rehmani represents some of Pakistan’s top cricketers, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Furthermore, questions have arisen regarding whether Inzamam’s dual roles as Chief Selector and a shareholder in a firm that represents prominent cricketers could potentially influence his decisions on player selection.

This controversy follows the backdrop of significant disputes between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and players concerning central contracts.

In a conversation with a local news channel, the head of the PCB management committee, Zaka Ashraf, has suggested the possibility of launching an investigation into Inzamam’s alleged association with a players’ agent’s company amid concerns about a potential conflict of interest in the national team’s selection process.

“It certainly appears to be a conflict of interest. We will summon the chief selector and request clarification regarding the accuracy of this news. However, it seems plausible that if Talha has influence over seven to eight players, he may also play a role in their selection. We will seek an explanation from the chief selector,” Zaka remarked.

Talha, the players’ agent in question, reportedly manages several players who have represented Pakistan on the international stage, leading to speculations about the extent of his influence on player selections.

The PCB’s investigation is anticipated to shed more light on the situation and, if necessary, take appropriate measures to address any conflicts of interest that may arise.
