KARACHI: Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi has affirmed that strict adherence to the constitution and the law will be maintained upon the return of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Addressing journalists at the Karachi Press Club, Solangi underlined the significance of the Karachi Press Club, describing it as a second home to him. He credited the club for its pivotal role in upholding democracy and expressed a strong commitment to addressing the challenges faced by journalists.

Solangi stressed that the caretaker government operates within the parameters set by the constitution and the law, with their authority limited to taking necessary actions within their jurisdiction. They remain dedicated to fulfilling their role in overseeing the upcoming general elections. He noted the autonomy and empowerment of the Election Commission, with expectations of an imminent announcement of the final election date.

Solangi acknowledged that some individuals aim to sow confusion but asserted that there is no such confusion within the government.

He disclosed that the final list of constituencies would be made available on November 30, expressing confidence in the Election Commission’s ability to announce the definitive date. In the event that the courts are accessible, their primary focus will be on stabilizing the country’s economy.

Regarding Nawaz Sharif, the caretaker information minister reiterated Nawaz Sharif’s three-time tenure as the country’s prime minister and his leadership of a major political party. Solangi clarified that Nawaz Sharif had not breached prison walls but had left with government permission. He emphasized that upon Nawaz Sharif’s return, strict adherence to the constitution and the law will be maintained. Solangi also clarified that the caretaker government would not provide answers to questions related to Nawaz Sharif, as these should be addressed by him or through the country’s constitutional legal system.

Regarding petroleum product prices, the federal minister indicated that, if conditions permit and oil production increases, they will consider lowering petrol prices, similar to their efforts in reducing the value of the dollar. Their ongoing goal is to bring down petrol prices as well.

Highlighting the impact of their government’s administrative measures, the federal minister noted a significant drop in the dollar’s price by 30 to 35 rupees.

In response to a question, the Federal Information Minister emphasized that there are no restrictions on mentioning the Chairman of PTI. He assured that equal opportunities would be extended to all registered political parties in the country, with no party facing any restrictions.
