ISLAMABAD: Residents of Islamabad’s upscale Sector I-8 are expressing their distress and insecurity as the area witnesses an alarming increase in street crimes and robberies.

Bold Daylight Robbery on Eid

In a recent incident on Eid, a young girl fell victim to a bold daylight robbery in Sector I-8/1. Two robbers on a motorbike snatched her mobile phone, and when she resisted, they assaulted her. A house guard intervened but was shot and wounded by the robbers, who managed to escape.

Averted Break-in Incident

Another incident occurred earlier on June 19 when armed men attempted to break into a house in the same sector. The family’s loud cries scared off the intruders, preventing the loss of their belongings and potentially saving lives.

Distressingly Common Street Crimes

On June 15, three laborers were robbed at gunpoint in Sector I-8/1. The armed culprits took away their mobile phones and cash. Residents of I-8 claim that street crimes and robberies have become distressingly common in the sector. Similar crimes have been reported in nearby areas, such as the shooting of a resident in Sector I-10/2 on June 19 for resisting robbers’ demands for money and a mobile phone. Additionally, on June 20, a person was targeted by robbers in the Tarlai area shortly after withdrawing money from an ATM. The victim suffered severe injuries from the assailants’ brutal assault and was rushed to the hospital.

Residents Demand Urgent Intervention

The escalating crime situation in Islamabad has left residents frustrated and anxious about their safety. A concerned resident of Sector I-8/1 emphasized the lack of police presence and protection for the lives and property of the people in the capital city. Over the past few months, incidents of robbery, street crime, theft, car theft, and motorcycle theft have surged, casting a shadow of insecurity and anxiety over the lives of the residents.

In response, the residents of Sector I-8 are demanding immediate intervention from the authorities and urging law enforcement agencies, especially the police, to take urgent action to address the deteriorating law and order situation. They are calling for increased police visibility, enhanced security measures, and swift investigation and apprehension of criminals to ensure the safety of the public and their belongings.
