ISLAMABAD: In a forceful response to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) position on human rights violations in the nation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a statement on Monday emphasizing that proper legal procedures were being followed for each case related to the party’s alleged involvement in the May 9 riots.

The Prime Minister, through his official Twitter account, reaffirmed his dedication to upholding the law and ensuring the protection of citizens’ rights. He tweeted, “I assure everyone that the individuals responsible are being dealt with according to the law, and I will make certain that no rights violations occur.”

On May 9, Pakistan experienced violent protests in several cities, resulting in numerous injuries and attacks on military facilities, following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The police responded by launching a crackdown on all those believed to be involved in the violence, pledging to hold everyone accountable. However, PTI has been organizing demonstrations abroad and asserting through international media outlets that human rights violations are being perpetrated in Pakistan.

PM Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan fully respects and is committed to fulfilling all its constitutional and international obligations regarding human rights. He accused the PTI leader of deliberately disseminating false information and distorting the truth in interviews with foreign media, aimed at misleading both local and international audiences.

“The PTI leader’s convenient portrayal of the events following May 9 as ‘human rights abuses’ and ‘suppression of the right to political protest’ is not only deceptive but also intended to manipulate and influence opinion-makers outside the country,” PM Shehbaz wrote.

The Prime Minister categorically stated that the actions of PTI on May 9 constituted a “blatant attack on the sovereignty of Pakistan, driven by ill intent and sinister motives.” He asserted that no nation in the world would tolerate such an attempt to undermine its unity and integrity.
