LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi was arrested by anti-corruption officials from Lahore outside his home, as reported by a private TV Channel on Thursday.
The arrest took place near Zahoor Elahi’s residence in Lahore’s Gulberg area when the former Punjab chief minister was pulled over by anti-corruption personnel.
The development follows an anti-corruption court’s decision last week to discard Elahi’s interim bail due to his failure to appear before the court, citing health issues. Elahi’s spokesperson has confirmed the arrest.
The arrest of Parvez Elahi is in connection with a corruption case involving Rs70 million, related to the embezzlement of development funds allocated for the Gujrat district. The judge in the anti-corruption court also declared Elahi’s medical certificate, which claimed chest pain, as bogus.
In an interview with Private TV Channel , Punjab caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir stated that Elahi was wanted by the anti-corruption police in a graft case. Mir revealed that Elahi attempted to flee from his residence but was intercepted by the police, who then took him into custody.
During the arrest, there was resistance, but the police managed to apprehend Parvez Elahi, added the minister. Further investigations into the corruption case will continue as authorities work to uphold the rule of law and combat corruption in Pakistan.
