Actor Jeremy Strong, known for his role as Kendall Roy in the hit series Succession, recently shared a surprising revelation during an official podcast interview.
Strong unveiled an alternative ending to the show, which concluded on Sunday, capturing the attention of fans and industry insiders alike.
In the discussion with host Kara Swisher, the actor disclosed that he had improvised his character’s final moments, introducing a twist that astounded both the cast and crew. In this alternate ending, Kendall Roy, having been betrayed by his sister and denied the opportunity to assume the position of CEO in their late father’s company, finds himself in a state of utter despair.
As the scene unfolds, Kendall is depicted sitting on a bench, gazing into the distance, while his father’s former driver now acts as his guardian. Overwhelmed by his sister’s betrayal and the ensuing emotional turmoil, Kendall impulsively climbs up onto a railing, contemplating throwing himself into the river below. However, just as he is about to take the fateful plunge, his guardian, portrayed by Scott Nicholson, intervenes, preventing the tragic act.
Recalling the moment, Strong recounted, “I stood up and walked slowly to the barrier that was set up there and climbed over it. And I didn’t really know what I plan to do. And the actor playing Colin saw me and ran and stopped me from doing it.” He further described the atmospheric setting, with the windy and cold conditions intensifying his character’s distress, combined with the dissonant clanging of metal.
This revelation by Jeremy Strong offers a captivating glimpse into the creative process behind Succession’s finale, leaving viewers to ponder the alternate path that Kendall Roy’s character could have taken.
