ISLAMABAD: In a recent announcement, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has set the deadline for the highly anticipated Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme for high-achieving students in public sector universities. The scheme aims to empower and support students in their educational pursuits by providing them with laptops. The deadline for applications is June 20.
laptop scheme 2023 : Eligibility Criteria for the Laptop Scheme :
According to the eligibility criteria outlined by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), students pursuing various degrees are eligible for the scheme. The specific requirements for each program are as follows:
Ph.D. Programs: Students who enrolled on or before June 30, 2018, are eligible to apply for the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme.
MS/M.Phil Programs: Students who enrolled on or before June 30, 2021, can apply for the scheme.
MBA Programs: The eligibility criteria for MBA programs depend on their durations. Students enrolled on or before December 31, 2019, are eligible for a 3.5-year program. Those enrolled on or before December 31, 2020, are eligible for a 2.5-year program. Finally, students enrolled on or before December 31, 2021, can apply for a 1.5-year program.
Masters Programs: Students who enrolled on or before June 30, 2021, in Masters programs are eligible for the laptop scheme.
Undergraduate Programs : For undergraduate students, those who enrolled on or before June 30, 2018, in a 5-year program, and June 30, 2019, in a 4-year program, are eligible to apply.

Last week, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Youth Affairs, made an important announcement regarding the laptop scheme. She revealed that the government would relaunch the scheme under the umbrella of the Prime Minister Youth Program. The SAPM emphasized that the scheme aims to provide 100,000 laptops to the youth, equipping them with the necessary tools for education and professional development.

Expressing regret over the previous government’s decision to halt the scheme, the SAPM emphasized the importance of laptops in enabling the youth to continue their education and jobs during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. The laptops provided by the previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government proved to be vital resources for the youth in their pursuit of education and career opportunities.
