However, the council has assured the candidates that it has a well-established “special consideration” process for releasing results when exams are cancelled.

The council has stated that candidates whose exams have been cancelled can still receive their results if they have sat at least one eligible component and completed at least 15% of the total assessment in the June 2023 examination series.

A-level candidates must sit at least one A2-level component to achieve a full A-level result.

The British Council has acknowledged that some candidates may have questions and concerns regarding this process.

In a letter to the candidates, the council stated that it had taken the difficult decision to cancel the examinations on 10 and 11 May in view of the developing and insecure situation in the country and the care of its candidates and all British Council staff.

The decision was taken in line with the council’s duty to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved in the examinations.

The letter also thanked the candidates for their understanding and continued support during this difficult time.
