LAHORE: The Punjab government has officially stopped paying salaries to government employees through cash and cheques.
A formal notification has been issued, stating that from September 1, 2025, all government employees across the province will receive their salaries only through bank accounts.
According to the notification, the Punjab Finance Department has directed that salaries will no longer be given in cash or by cheque. Instead, all payments will be made through bank accounts, digital wallets, or biometric platforms like the Bank of Punjab.
The government said this decision has been taken to ensure transparency, prevent delays, and stop any misuse of funds. All government departments and offices have been instructed to immediately follow the new system.
Employees who have not yet provided their bank account details are advised to do so as soon as possible to avoid any problems in receiving their salaries. Departments have also been told to make sure all employees’ records are linked to bank accounts without delay.

Officials say this step will help improve financial transparency, increase efficiency in departments, and make salary transfers faster and safer for employees.
Earlier in February, the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) had also banned the payment of teachers’ salaries in cash. According to a separate notification, teachers under Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) will now receive their salaries online or through bank accounts.
The notification stated that salary records will be available on the Teachers’ Information System, and schools failing to follow the new method will have their licenses cancelled.
In the first phase, over 5,000 schools were outsourced under this system, where around 10,000 teachers are currently working.
