KARACHI: The Karachi administration has banned pillion riding on motorcycles for ten days, from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram, to ensure security during the holy month.
According to an official notification, all concerned departments and law enforcement agencies have been directed to strictly implement the ban.
The Sindh government has also issued a detailed security plan for Muharram. No religious procession or route change will be allowed without prior permission. There is a complete ban on the sale and distribution of provocative materials, including hateful audio and video content.
Authorities have been asked to ensure uninterrupted electricity, availability of drinking water, working streetlights, and proper cleanliness along procession routes. Officials stressed that no procession will be allowed without full security arrangements.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province from 1st to 10th of Muharram. This law restricts public gatherings and certain activities to maintain peace.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department said pillion riding will be banned on 9th and 10th of Muharram. However, elderly citizens and women will be exempt from the restriction.
The government has also prohibited carrying or displaying weapons and explosives in public places during these days. Additionally, chanting of provocative slogans, hate speech, and inciting remarks have been banned under the law.
