LAHORE: The Punjab Excise Department has taken a major step to identify electric vehicles (EVs) by issuing special green number plates. According to Additional Director General Excise, the department has launched a unique green plate design that will make electric vehicles easily recognizable on roads.
He said that all electric vehicle owners across Punjab will now be required to use these new green plates for quick and clear identification. So far, more than 16,000 electric vehicles—including over 14,500 electric motorcycles, 1,461 electric cars, 31 buses, and 36 rickshaws—have been registered in the province.
The official also shared that a 95% discount on registration and token tax for electric vehicles is already in place and will continue into the next financial year. This incentive aims to promote eco-friendly transportation and support the growth of electric vehicle culture in Punjab.

The government has announced Punjab’s largest-ever Annual Development Programme (ADP), worth Rs1.24 trillion—nearly 47% more than last year’s ADP. This reflects a strong commitment to improving infrastructure and public services.
Out of this, Rs335.5 billion has been allocated for core infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and public transport systems. These projects aim to improve travel facilities in cities, towns, and villages across the province.
A key highlight of the budget is the allocation of Rs120 billion specifically for the construction and repair of roads. This funding will cover everything from highways to smaller roads in remote areas, helping millions of people save time and travel more safely.
A major part of this effort is the Chief Minister’s Local Roads Programme, which has been allocated Rs50 billion. The programme focuses on repairing and upgrading roads in small towns and rural communities—areas that are often overlooked in development plans.
These initiatives are expected to not only improve public travel but also support economic activity and regional connectivity across Punjab.
