LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to recruit 3,599 nurses through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) to overcome the severe shortage of nursing staff in government teaching hospitals across the province.
According to the details, the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education has formally requested the PPSC to speed up the recruitment process. The department stated that the shortage of nurses is affecting the delivery of timely and quality treatment to patients.
This large-scale recruitment drive aims to immediately deploy the newly hired nurses in hospitals to fill staffing gaps and improve healthcare services for the public.
Officials confirmed that the shortage of nurses has long been a serious issue in teaching hospitals, making it difficult to provide proper patient care. The department is working to resolve this issue on a priority basis.
In other news, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has launched its licensing system in Punjab for the first time.

According to a PMDC spokesperson, a regional office for medical and dental registration has been made functional in Lahore. In addition, the online registration system is now active, making it easier for doctors in Punjab to register without traveling to Islamabad.
PMDC President Dr. Rizwan Taj called the licensing system a historic step. A press statement from the council said that applicants will receive full support through the online portal, and original certificates will be delivered to practitioners via TCS courier.
The registration system will soon be expanded across the country. The second phase will cover Peshawar and Karachi, followed by Jamshoro and Balochistan in the third phase. In the fourth phase, the system will be introduced in Multan.
