RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government announced that Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) will be enforced from June 5 to June 11, 2025 to maintain public peace and ensure safety.

As per the details, a notification from the provincial government stated that during Eidul Azha, some people burn the heads and feet of sacrificial animals, creating smoke and an unpleasant smell.

The notification also noted that people often discard animal remains on roadsides and in drains, leading to bad odors, unsanitary conditions, and blocked sewerage systems.

It further mentioned that during Eid holidays, some individuals swim in canals, ponds, lakes, rivers, and other water bodies, which can be dangerous.

The government also pointed out that cattle sellers set up unauthorized sale points for sacrificial animals in populated areas, causing traffic issues and spreading diseases.

These activities can harm public health, create disturbances, and cause dissatisfaction among residents, according to the notification.

To address these concerns, the government has decided to act under Section 144 of the CrPC to prevent risks to public peace and safety across Punjab.

From June 5 to June 11, the following activities will be banned in the province: burning animal heads and feet in public places, swimming or boating in rivers, lakes, or dams, throwing animal remains into manholes, drains, or canals, selling or buying sacrificial animals outside designated cattle markets, and displaying arms or ammunition.

A Punjab home department spokesperson said that only organizations registered with the Punjab Charity Commission will be allowed to collect animal hides during Eidul Azha, and no banned groups will be permitted to do so.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has planned a major cleanliness drive for Eidul Azha to keep the city clean.

The LWMC will provide 1.5 million biodegradable bags for proper disposal of animal waste, distributed at 300 special camps across Lahore.

To manage waste effectively, 104 temporary collection points will be set up in the city. Over 1,000 LWMC staff, including senior officers, will work during Eid, as all staff leaves have been canceled.

LWMC CEO Babar Sahib Din said a control room will operate during Eid to oversee the cleanliness efforts. Safe City cameras and drones will monitor the process to ensure the plan is followed properly.
