ISLAMABAD: The federal government is likely to revise the date for presenting the annual budget once again, sources said on Wednesday.
According to sources, due to Eid holidays on June 7 and 8, the government may declare June 9 — the third day of Eid — as a working day. However, both the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting and the release of the Economic Survey are scheduled for the same day.
Officials say it will not be possible to hold the NEC meeting and launch the Economic Survey on the same day.
Sources from the Ministry of Finance said that the NEC meeting will be attended by the chief ministers of all four provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan, while the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir will also be present.
The NEC meeting is usually an all-day session where the national development programme is finalized.

Traditionally, there is a two-day gap between the NEC meeting and the federal budget announcement. Because of this, the government is considering extending the budget presentation date by two more days.
Earlier, the official date for the federal budget was announced as June 2. However, due to ongoing talks with the IMF, it was already pushed to June 10. Now, further delays are possible.
