ISLAMABAD: There is uncertainty about whether schools, colleges, and universities in Pakistan will remain closed on Monday, May 12, 2025. Many people are guessing what might happen, but no official decision has been announced yet.
Earlier this week, due to rising tensions between Pakistan and India, the government had declared holidays on May 7, 9, and 10 in Punjab and the federal capital, Islamabad.
During those days, all educational institutions remained closed. Separate notifications were issued by the Islamabad administration and the Punjab education department.
After the weekend ending on May 11, people expected that another holiday might be announced for May 12. However, until now, no formal notification has been issued by any government department.
In a positive development, Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire, which started on Saturday at 4:30 PM.
Due to this improvement in the situation, it is likely that educational institutions will open as usual on May 12. Still, the final decision will be made by the concerned education and administrative authorities.

On the other hand, Pakistan has fully reopened its airspace for all types of flights, a Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) spokesperson announced on Saturday.
The decision follows an announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump that Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire after Pakistan’s military action against India earlier today.
All airports in the country are now open for regular flight operations, the spokesperson said, advising passengers to check with their airlines for updated flight schedules.
The reopening comes after Pakistan extended the closure of its airspace until 12 p.m. on May 11 due to tensions with India at the Line of Control (LoC).
