FAISALABAD: Experts at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad have developed a new chicken breed called “UniGold,” which can lay over 200 eggs per year.
According to the details, this breed is more resistant to climate changes and produces well with less feed, offering hope for rural poultry farming.
Scientists from the Animal Husbandry Department say traditional local chickens lay only 70 to 80 eggs annually, while “UniGold” has nearly three times that capacity.
The breed can also handle heat and environmental stress better, making it suitable for Pakistan’s rural and semi-urban areas.
Experts note that this is the first time in 65 years that a chicken breed has been developed specifically for small-scale farmers in Pakistan.

“UniGold” will not only increase egg production but also help meet meat demands. A university spokesperson said efforts are underway to distribute “UniGold” to farmers across the country.
The breed is easy and inexpensive to maintain, allowing rural women to raise it and create new job opportunities at the household level.
Report say that the Scientists believe this development could transform Pakistan’s poultry sector, boosting local egg and meat production and improving the economy in rural areas.
