RAWALPINDI: Private companies in Punjab will soon be allowed to deduct income tax from employees’ salaries, as per The Punjab Finance (Amendment) Bill 2025, approved by the Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee on Excise.
As per the private media report, the committee, led by Agha Ali Haider, passed the bill in a meeting with officials from the Excise, Law, and Finance Departments.
The bill allows accounts officers in private companies to withhold income tax from employees’ monthly salaries to ensure accurate tax collection from private sector workers and prevent tax evasion.
The committee said, “Private companies’ DDOs (Drawing and Disbursing Officers) will deduct taxes before paying salaries.”

If taxes are not deducted correctly, the Excise and Taxation Officer will be responsible for collecting the owed amount. All taxes collected will go to the government treasury. The bill will now be presented in the Punjab Assembly for final approval.
In other news, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the creation of the first Nawaz Sharif Internet City in Lahore.
Speaking at the Anatolia Diplomacy Forum on the topic of education’s transformative power, Maryam Nawaz Sharif said every child should enroll in school, continue studying, and achieve success.
She proposed forming a global agreement for girls’ education and suggested steps to improve education policies, teaching methods, and promote learning through mutual cooperation.
She emphasized the importance of dignified diplomacy for the welfare of people, not just the state, and shared the vision of Friends of Education. She also invited top Turkish universities to set up campuses in Punjab.
