KARACHI: Ali Haider Zaidi, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former federal minister for Maritime Affairs, has reportedly been arrested in Karachi.
Talking to Twitter, PTI leader Farrukh Habib, Zaidi was taken into custody by the police from the party’s Sindh office.
However, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry strongly objected to the arrest, claiming that Zaidi was detained without any warrant. Chaudhry further stated that the system of cruelty and oppression was not acceptable in any way.
Zaidi, along with other PTI leaders, was nominated in a terror case for allegedly vandalising the office of Keamari deputy commissioner during the recounting of local body polls’ votes in January. The case was registered after PTI protested outside the DC office, where PPP workers were also present.

Clashes broke out between the supporters of PTI and PPP, resulting in damage to the office and injuries to three citizens due to firing. On January 20, an anti-terrorism court granted pre-arrest bail to Zaidi in the terror case for vandalising the DC office in Keamari.
