LAHORE: The Punjab Higher Education Department has placed a complete ban on the use of mobile phones in classrooms for students and teachers across all colleges in the province.

A letter has been sent to all colleges, directing that students and teachers cannot use mobile phones in classrooms. The letter explains that mobile phone use is harming the learning environment, taking students’ attention away from studies, and causing academic misconduct.

According to the department, mobile phones in classrooms affect students’ academic performance and also disturb the teaching process when used by teachers.

The letter notes that students use social media apps in classrooms, which disrupts discipline. All colleges have been told to stop mobile phone use immediately, and if this rule is not followed, strict action will be taken against the colleges.

The department received many complaints from various colleges about the unnecessary use of mobile phones by students and teachers during classes, leading to this decision. The letter states that legal action will be taken against colleges that do not enforce the ban.

Similarly, a ban on mobile phone use during classes has been introduced in Sindh colleges. The Sindh Higher Education Department has issued instructions to college directors and principals to prevent mobile phone use during classes.

The letter says that mobile phones affect the teaching process and shift students’ focus away from studies. For this reason, both teachers and students are banned from using mobile phones.

The department explains that the main purpose of this ban is to improve students’ academic performance, maintain discipline, and create a better learning environment. In both provinces, this step is part of efforts to ensure students’ well-being.
