RAWALPINDI: A driver got into trouble for speeding on the M-4 motorway near Multan, an official said on Thursday. Punjab is working harder to stop accidents on motorways. Police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the driver.
As per the newspaper report, the National Highways and Motorway Police had told drivers they could face FIRs if they go over 150 kilometers per hour. They warned drivers clearly that speeding would lead to criminal cases. If caught, police would file an FIR and take the vehicle.
The usual speed limit on motorways is 120 km/h for cars, jeeps, and light vehicles. For heavy vehicles, it’s 110 km/h.
Motorway Police Spokesperson said the first FIR for speeding was filed. The driver was arrested. He explained that the vehicle was going 173 km/h on the M-4 near Multan, which is not allowed.

Police filed the case at Badlah-e-Sant Police Station in Multan. It was about negligence and speeding. The driver was caught and handed to local police, the spokesperson said. He added that they will keep taking strict action against speeding.
Road accidents happen a lot on Pakistan’s highways. They are often caused by speeding, risky overtaking, and ignoring traffic rules.
On Friday, a bus accident on the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway near Neelah-Dullah Interchange killed eight passengers and injured 41 others. On January 22, another accident near Nooriabad on the M-9 Karachi-Hyderabad motorway left one person dead and 11 injured.
