ISLAMABAD: Petrol prices in Pakistan are expected to go up by about Rs4 per litre starting March 1, 2025. Diesel prices might drop a little on Friday for the next two weeks. This is because of changes in global markets and exchange rates.
Sources from a private newspaper said the petrol price at depots could rise by Rs4 to Rs4.50 per litre. The final amount will be set on February 28. Diesel and kerosene prices may fall by less than Rs1 per litre.
The rise in petrol prices comes from slightly higher global rates and a weaker exchange rate against the dollar. Brent oil prices have stayed mostly steady over the past ten days.
Right now, petrol costs Rs256.13 per litre at depots. Diesel is Rs263.95 per litre, and kerosene is Rs171.65 per litre. But kerosene is often sold for Rs300-350 per litre.
Petrol, Diesel Price in Pakistan Today:
Product | Price (Rs/litre) |
---|---|
Petrol | 256.13 |
High-Speed Diesel (HSD) | 263.95 |
Petrol is used mostly by private cars, small vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles. It affects the budgets of middle and lower-middle-class families. Diesel powers most of the transport sector, like trucks, buses, trains, and farm equipment such as tractors and tube wells. Its price can raise the cost of vegetables and food.

The government adds a tax of about Rs76 per litre on petrol and diesel. There’s no general sales tax on petroleum products, but a Rs60 per litre petroleum levy is charged on both. This impacts many people.
There’s also a customs duty of about Rs16 per litre on petrol and diesel, whether produced locally or imported. Oil companies and dealers add around Rs17 per litre for distribution and sales.
For light diesel, high-octane fuel, and 95RON petrol—used in luxury imported cars—the government charges Rs50 per litre. These are mostly used by wealthier people.
Petrol and diesel bring in a lot of money for the government. About 700,000 to 800,000 tonnes are sold each month. Kerosene sales are much lower, at around 10,000 tonnes.
It should be noted that the final decision to reduce or increase petrol and diesel prices will be made only after the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
