ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government (KPK) has prepared a law to dismiss employees hired during the caretaker government’s term.

According to media reports, the provincial government will present the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Employees (Dismissal from Job Bill) 2025 to the assembly for approval on Monday.

The bill, if approved, will lead to the dismissal of over 16,000 employees hired in various departments during the caretaker government before the general elections.

These appointments had faced objections from government members in the provincial assembly. In response, the Chief Minister formed an investigative committee. After reviewing legal hurdles, the government decided to proceed with the law.

Sources say the law has been designed to remove employees hired between January 22, 2023, and February 29, 2024. According to the bill, those hired illegally during the caretaker period will have their appointments declared null and void.

Under the bill’s provisions, any benefits granted to these employees will also be immediately stopped. A committee will be formed to address any legal issues regarding the implementation of the law. This committee will include senior government officials, with the Secretary of the Establishment Department as its chairperson.

The committee’s decisions on the law’s implementation will be final, and the concerned departments will follow them. The Establishment Department will submit progress reports on the law’s implementation to the government. Additionally, the department will report the status of illegal appointments within 30 days of the law’s enforcement.

The bill will not affect employees hired before the caretaker government or those who participated in interviews for jobs under the seniority quota.
