LAHORE: Punjab government has decided to buy luxury vehicles for parliamentary secretaries.
According to media reports, 76 vehicles for parliamentary secretaries and officers will be purchased for Rs.61 crore.
Media Sources said that 29 luxury vehicles worth Rs.22 crore will be purchased for the parliamentary secretaries. As per sources, 15 luxury vehicles worth 9.96 million rupees will be purchased for S&GAD.
Sources say that the Additional Chief Secretary of Punjab had requested to buy 76 luxury vehicles.
Media sources said that it has been decided to buy 2 vehicles worth 3.61 million rupees for S&GAD for protocol, and 30 vehicles will be purchased for 20.9 million rupees for the protocol of provincial ministers.
The report states that the Additional Chief Secretary told the Cabinet Standing Committee on Finance and Development that the Punjab government had recently amended Section 3 of the 29 Parliamentary Secretaries (Salary, Allowances, and Perks) Ordinance, 2002 (LXXI of 2002).
Twenty-nine parliamentary secretaries have been appointed, and portfolios have been assigned to them.

Under the Ordinance, every parliamentary secretary has the right to use an official vehicle for both official and private purposes.
The Additional Chief Secretary informed the committee that the government had appointed 29 parliamentary secretaries in August, for whom the S&GAD was looking for luxury vehicles.
So far, the transport wing has provided several vehicles to 20 parliamentary secretaries from the transport pool of S&GAD. The ACS said the government needs to purchase 9 more official vehicles for the remaining parliamentary secretaries.
He also said that in view of the possibility of expansion in the provincial cabinet and parliamentary secretaries in the future, they also need 20 more vehicles as a reserve.
Considering the current law and order situation in the province, the government has requested 30 new Toyota Hilux single cabins (with a special fiber hood installed at the back), which is also necessary for the security of the provincial ministers.
