LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the transformation of Multan into a green city.
As per the report, Justice Jawad Hassan of the Lahore High Court issued a detailed 15-page judgment, providing instructions to make Multan a green city.
Justice Jawad Hassan issued the detailed judgment following a petition by Tahir Jamal, which requested the implementation of an order issued by the Lahore High Court in 2020. The previous order instructed the provision of basic public facilities and the plantation of trees along the M-3 motorway.
High Court stated in its judgment that a comprehensive framework should be created to increase the greenery in Multan, with the goal of transforming the city into a green space along the M-3 motorway.
The court further directed that spokespersons be appointed in all relevant departments. Suggestions should be gathered from stakeholders, and all relevant authorities should submit monthly performance reports to the court. These reports will cover improvements in air quality, plantation efforts, and the overall environmental strategy in Multan.

LHC recommended that a long-term policy be introduced to address the deteriorating environmental situation and air quality, noting that the current efforts to tackle the growing environmental problems in Multan are insufficient. Court also directed that the case be scheduled for hearing on the first Tuesday of every month.
High court appreciated the efforts of the Punjab government and government officials regarding environmental protection. The decision noted that 10,560 trees had been planted by the Multan Development Authority in private housing schemes.
