PESHAWAR: The PDMA has issued an alert as heavy rain with thunderstorms and snowfall on the mountains is expected in the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the first week of January.
The weather forecast predicts that rainfall and snowfall will continue from January 1 to January 6. Between January 1 and 5, areas like Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, and Buner are likely to experience rain and snowfall.
The alert also mentions that rain and thunderstorms, along with heavy snowfall on the mountains, are expected in Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, and Kohat.
The PDMA has instructed local authorities in the affected areas to take safety measures and inform the local people about the weather in their local languages.

In case of an emergency, relevant agencies are asked to stay alert and restore road links quickly, providing alternative routes if necessary. Tourists are advised to check weather and road conditions before visiting tourist spots and to contact the PDMA helpline.
The PDMA spokesperson has confirmed that the Emergency Operation Center is fully operational, and people can report any incidents by calling the PDMA’s free helpline at 1700.
