ISLAMABAD: The Gilgit Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced former Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid to 34 years in prison in a case involving the threat to security agencies and Election Commission officers.
According to media reports, the Anti-Terrorism Court also ordered the arrest of former Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid and the blocking of his National Identity Card.
The former Chief Minister has been sentenced to a total of 34 years in prison and a fine of Rs. 600,000.
It should be recalled that the former Chief Minister was accused of threatening security agencies with serious consequences at a rally on July 26, 2024.
In addition, Khalid Khurshid was also accused of threatening the Chief Secretary and Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan with serious consequences. A case was registered against him at the Gilgit City Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
It should be noted that on December 21, 2023, the Chief Court of Gilgit-Baltistan disqualified Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid in the fake degree case.
A three-member bench comprising Justice Malik Inayat-ur-Rehman, Justice Johar Ali, and Justice Muhammad Mushtaq issued a decision on the disqualification petition against the Chief Minister.
According to the report, PPP member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Ghulam Shahzad Agha had challenged the law degree of Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid and demanded his disqualification under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Later, on December 21, 2023, the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan declared Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and former Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid ineligible to participate in the elections.
According to a TV channel report, Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz had pronounced the decision regarding the lifetime disqualification of Khalid Khurshid.
While announcing his decision, he said that former Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid is ineligible for life to participate in the upcoming elections.
It may be recalled that Khalid Khurshid was elected Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan after winning the 2020 general elections.
