ISLAMABAD: The Secretary of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) has announced the opening of bank accounts for consumers.
A meeting of the National Assembly’s Poverty Reduction Committee was held under the chairmanship of Mir Ghulam Ali, during which the issue related to the Benazir Income Support Program was discussed.
BISP officials briefed the committee that, out of the Benazir Income Support Program beneficiaries, 130,000 women do not work. Special cards will be issued to these women in January.
Regarding the issue of providing money to beneficiaries, officials mentioned that all banks have a total of 17,000 branches across the country. However, most of these branches are in cities, while most of the program’s beneficiaries are from rural areas, so there will be difficulties.

Income Support Program officials suggested that the money be distributed through point-of-sale agents.
In response, Chairman Mir Ghulam Ali stated that any human intervention leads to a mess, and the Benazir Income Support Program should be fully automated.
Briefing the committee, the Secretary of the Income Support Program explained that every customer’s bank account will be opened, allowing beneficiaries to withdraw money from any bank branch. This will be a significant success.

The Secretary added that efforts are underway to enable customers to withdraw money from other banks as well. The goal is for Benazir Income Support Program beneficiaries to be able to withdraw money from any bank.
