Islamabad : Strict security measures are in place for today’s (Sunday) National Assembly session in Pakistan, with guest entry strictly prohibited, as stated by the Assembly’s spokesperson. Only media representatives with full-session press gallery cards issued by the National Assembly’s Directorate General of Media will be allowed in Parliament House, according to media reports. Issuance of one-day press gallery cards has been suspended.
Cameramen on pre-approved lists will be permitted entry at Parliament’s Gate 1, and journalists must carry their press gallery cards for security reasons. The Assembly’s 9-point agenda for today has been released, notably omitting the 26th Constitutional Amendment. Among the agenda items is the 2024 Legal Aid and Justice Authority Amendment Bill, which will be presented for approval.
A call attention notice concerning fraud in General Sales Tax collection, filed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) members, will also be discussed.
Today’s National Assembly session starts at 6 pm, with the Senate session at 3 pm. The 26th Constitutional Amendment was expected to be presented after meetings at JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence in Islamabad, where figures like Deputy PM Ishaq Dar and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari gathered.
It is important to mention that PTI had requested initially more time to decide its stance on the amendment but chose to boycott the voting process in both houses, calling it non-transparent and controversial.
