ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb announced on Tuesday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to extend his stay in London for one more day on the directives of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif.

Initially, the premier’s visit was intended for his attendance at the coronation of King Charles III. However, the extension of the visit is for consultations on key political and national affairs. PM Shehbaz Sharif is now scheduled to leave for Pakistan on Wednesday, a week after his arrival in the UK to represent Pakistan at the coronation ceremony.

During his visit, PM Shehbaz Sharif met with his brother and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, as well as UK’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Pakistani-origin Scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf. However, PTI chief Imran Khan criticized the visit, calling it a “waste of nation’s money.”

The visit comes at a time when Pakistan is facing an ever-intensifying political crisis, with the incumbent coalition government and opposing PTI at odds over the conduct of elections. Despite the Supreme Court’s orders, the two sides have not yet made any significant progress in the ongoing election dialogue.
