ISLAMABAD: Metrobus service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi will remain closed today, Friday, 18 October 2024, the bus service will be completely suspended from Sadar Station to Pak Secretariat.
As per report, due to the closure of the metrobus service, citizens are facing difficulties, as about 125,000 people use the metrobus service daily.
Earlier, due to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Islamabad, bus services, including the Red, Orange, and Green Line services in the twin cities, were completely stopped on October 14, 15, and 16 because heads of different countries, including foreign delegations, were participating in the meeting.
However, despite the summit being over, it was decided to keep all bus services closed on October 17 as well. According to the notification of the concerned authority, metro services are being suspended on October 17 due to security reasons, as some foreign delegations are still present in Islamabad.

It may be recalled that the arrival of foreign delegations for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit started on October 14, which led to the closure of bus services to reduce traffic congestion across the city on October 14.
Previously, Metrobus services have been suspended in the twin cities during the visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Pakistan and also during protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
It should be noted that Section 144 has been imposed for days on the students’ protest in Punjab and the nationwide protest call by Tehreek-e-Insaaf against possible constitutional amendments and the imprisonment of Imran Khan.
