ISLAMABAD: A three-day traffic diversion plan has been implemented in Islamabad and Rawalpindi in preparation for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit from October 14 to 16, heavy traffic will be prohibited from entering the capital.
As per the traffic plan, more than 1,100 traffic police officers and personnel will be deployed across the city Residents are urged to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
Accroding to the plan, travelers from Peshawar to Rawat via GT Road are advised to use Taxila, Motorway, Chakri Interchange, and Chak Beli Road Those traveling from Lahore to Peshawar should take the Rawat, Chak Beli Road, Chakri Interchange, Motorway, and Taxila routes.
Motorists traveling from Margalla Road to Rawalpindi should use Ninth Avenue Traffic from Faisal Avenue to Zero Point will be diverted to Ninth Avenue Travelers from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi are advised to take Korang Road and Lehtarar Road via Bani Gala.
Traffic coming from Rawalpindi to Islamabad via President Murree Road should use Ninth Avenue The Zero Point to Faisal Avenue route will be closed for all traffic heading towards Korang Chowk, those traveling from Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed Road to Faizabad are advised to take Stadium Road via the Ninth Avenue signal.

Police sources also indicate that air surveillance will be ongoing during the arrival of delegations over the three days, while mobile services may be suspended in certain areas
Report says that the Rawalpindi City Traffic Police has announced a special traffic plan in preparation for the SCO moot. As per the plan, a total of 622 traffic officers and personnel will be deployed, including 13 DSPs, 73 senior traffic wardens, and 536 traffic wardens and assistants.
Chief Traffic Officer Benish Fatima has instructed the City Traffic Police of Rawalpindi to implement this plan from October 14 to 16, 2024. A spokesperson stated that heavy traffic will be entirely banned from entering Rawalpindi during these three days.

Heavy Traffic Route
- Heavy traffic from Lahore GT Road will be diverted from Chak beli Mor towards Chak beli Road to Chakri Interchange for the Motorway. Heavy traffic from Peshawar GT Road will be diverted from Taxila to the Motorway and Tarnol Phattak to Fateh Jhang Road.
- Entry of heavy traffic in Rawalpindi city will be completely banned during SCO summit days, i.e., 14-15-16 OCT 2024.
Metro Bus Service Update During SCO Summit in Islamabad & Rawalpindi:
On the other hand, the Metro Bus service in Rawalpindi and Islamabad will face a temporary disruption from October 14 to 17 owing to the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.
As per the district administration’s directive, the service will remain suspended during this period. However, commuters can avail the service as usual until October 13.
