Govt announces public holidays in Islamabad, Rawalpindi from October 14-16

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced public holidays in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on October 14, 15, and 16, ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting.

After the approval of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, the Cabinet Division issued the holiday notification.

Three holidays have been approved to ensure the peaceful conduct of the SCO summit, during which all government offices and educational institutions will remain closed from October 14 to 16.

According to media reports, public holidays were announced to avoid disruption to the security of foreign guests. The Red Zone will be completely closed for three days during the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The army has also been deployed in Islamabad under Article 245 for the SCO Summit, which will remain deployed until October 17.

Earlier, the Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a statement that India will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting in Pakistan.

The spokesperson said that Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar will go to Pakistan to participate in the SCO Summit and will attend the summit on October 15 and 16. This will be Jaishankar’s first visit to Pakistan.
