Google to manufacture 5 lacs Chromebooks in Pakistan, presents first unit to PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Google, one of the world’s largest technology companies, has started a program to produce 500,000 (five lacs) Chromebooks in Pakistan.

According to the official news agency, Google’s Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka Regional Director, Farhan S. Qureshi, presented the first Chromebook to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif at an event held in Islamabad.

Addressing the event, the Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of Google globally and in Pakistan. He said that the young generation of the country has great potential in the field of information technology, which can play a key role in the economic development of Pakistan.

Shahbaz Sharif stated that federal and provincial governments should use all possible resources for education.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the government has set a target of 25 billion US dollars in IT exports over the next five years, which is quite achievable. In this regard, he asked IT experts and entrepreneurs to come up with a plan to help the government achieve the target of IT exports, while also promoting small and medium enterprises and freelancers.

Farhan S. Qureshi, Regional Director of Google, while addressing the event, said that focusing on technology will help increase economic activities in the country. He further stated that there are vast opportunities for freelancers in Pakistan to advance in various fields of technology.
