ISLAMABAD: Taking a major decision on the recent terrorist incidents, the Federal Cabinet approved an immediate Rs20 billion for “Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.”
As per media report, the meeting of the federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was held in Islamabad. It reviewed a 6-point plan, including the country’s economic and political situation.
During the meeting, the federal cabinet took a major decision on recent terrorist incidents and approved Rs.20 billion for Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.
Additionally, Rs20 billion was approved by Economic Coordination Committee (ECC). The federal cabinet will support its armed forces for counter-terrorism.
“There will be no talk with the enemies of the country; the time has come to end terrorism,” Prime Minister said.
In the National Apex Committee, Operation Azm-e-Istehkam was approved, which faced reservations from opposition parties.
Media sources says, federal cabinet expressed concern over recent incidents of terrorism and reiterated its commitment to provide all possible cooperation to combat terrorism.
Sources say the federal cabinet also paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of the security forces. The cabinet also approved additional funds required for the eradication of extremism.
The Federal Cabinet approved austerity measures on the recommendation of the Right Sizing Committee. The measures were approved based on the Ministry of Finance’s summary.
The federal cabinet received briefings on PWD staff transfers and PSDP projects. The agenda item related to the Convention Recovery of Maintenance Abroad was also reviewed during the meeting.
The recommendations of the first phase of the government’s right-sizing committee were presented in the cabinet meeting. The decisions of the August 23 meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Legislation were ratified, along with decisions from the Economic Coordination Committee’s meeting on August 22.
In Balochistan, an operation against terrorists resulted in 21 terrorists being killed. Fourteen security forces and law enforcement personnel were martyred.
Sources say that in the federal cabinet, the issue of the amount owed to PTA by LDI was also considered. A detailed briefing was given on the issue involving PTA and the Ministry of IT and Telecom.
It should be noted that, around 50 people, including soldiers and civilians, were martyred in multiple terrorist incidents in Balochistan. Many innocent civilians were martyred in terrorism in the districts of Musa Khel, Kalat, and Lasbela.
Security forces and law enforcement agencies responded swiftly and killed 21 terrorists in clearance operations.
